mac mini 2010 replace or fix?

I've a mac mini 2010, have put in extra RAM. Spent ages erasing and reinstalling OS el captain due to the dreaded spinning wheel. Every time I try to start it, it takes forever and the spinning wheel occurs. I have to keep doing a PRAM and it's a bit of night mare. I'm wondering whether to buy a new battery which somebody suggested is causing the problems or whether to send it in for repair to apple or just decide its time to throw it out and buy a new mac mini. I've invested in Logic Pro X and to even switch on the mac mini and get it going is causing loads of headaches. It's got 8 Gigs, and it's a 2.4 gigHertz intel core duo 2 processor. Fix or time to buy a new one? And worth travelling a few hours to the nearest apple store or send it to apple to see what they can do. Any one had a similar experience? thanks

Mac mini, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)
